2 Mexican Congressmen shot at Mexico-Toluca highway

Ruling party lawmaker David Figueroa is recovering satisfactorily at a hospital in Toluca after being wounded by gunmen, authorities said Tuesday.

Figueroa, a member of the National Action Party (PAN) representing the state of Sonora in Congress, was shot while driving out of the Toluca airport late Monday night with three other politicians, none of whom was injured in the incident.

Among those accompanying the lawmaker was PAN legislator Mercedes Corral, who had come to Toluca with him from Sonora, a government official of the State of Mexico said, explaining that those who had been attacked were headed for Mexico City.

Another PAN congressman, Héctor Larios, told radio stations that Figueroa received two bullets in a leg and another grazed his head.

“He´s out of danger and recovering satisfactorily,” Larios said after visiting his colleague in a Toluca hospital.

Larios said that for the moment the motive of the assault was unknown, but State of Mexico police are carrying out raids in Toluca and neighboring towns to try and find the gunmen.

The attack against Figueroa occurred four days before President-elect Felipe Calderón is scheduled to take office from his fellow PAN member Vicente Fox, in an atmosphere of political tension as a result of July´s contested election results and a growing wave of violence attributed to drug traffickers.

La Immigracion, Si. Americanizacion, No.
The Post Chronicle

Will America remain American â?? with roots, culture, and language reaching back to Anglo Saxon Europe — when millions of legal Mexican Americans and illegal Mexican immigrants want to be and remain Mexican? With midterm elections now over, this question will more than likely continue to escape America’s attention as the nation’s ruling elite simply pick up where they left off on illegal immigration. In other words, the sterile debates will continue unabated on border enforcement, amnesty, guest worker proposals, and so on.

But the question or its variant will be scrupulously avoided, since the raising of it would entail breaking a taboo of the new politics of silence as touching race and culture and thereby risk arousing the indignation of the public arbiters of what is acceptable political speech. Yet, race and culture has everything to do with the unity and character of a nation. America is great in many things, but its continued greatness depends on its citizens being Americans undivided in their allegiance to America. A unity of the many (plures) into one. To avoid the question on race and culture then would be to avoid the threat to America’s national existence posed by the Open Society multiculturalists.

Even more troubling are the manifest circumstances which pointedly indicate that many Mexican Americans at worst support not unity but separatism or irredentism in the “silent reconquista” of America, or at least have divided loyalties decidedly more Mexican than American. In either case, assuming national existence still matters to America’s ruling elite, and that is a suspect assumption, Mexicans en masse are among the worst possible candidates for American citizenship. Open borders advocates and adherents of the melting pot myth may denounce this as racist or at odds with America as a nation of immigrants, but its truth is discovered with but a few facts.

What was characteristic of immigrants and America since its founding no longer holds today. In the history of US immigration prior to the immigration reform act of 1965, most immigrants lived and breathed a desire to be American and to live as Americans. They wanted to speak like Americans, celebrate holidays like Americans, and to love America like Americans. What we see with the Mexican inflow, a phenomenon begun in 1965 when a selective immigration policy was undone by an ill-conceived immigration reform, is a dramatically changed and adversely affected national profile……

Illegal immigrants steal identities to get jobs
November 26, 2006

STOCKTON - Ruben, a roofer living in Stockton, knew using a Social Security number that didn’t belong to him was against the law.

He knew using it was a gamble that could get him deported to Mexico. And, if that happened, it could mean he might never be allowed to return.

It was a risk he was willing to take two years ago, as he worked in the United States illegally under an alias.

“Because they asked me for a Social Security number at work or they wouldn’t pay me,” said Ruben, speaking on the condition that his last name not be revealed. (Ruben is now a legal U.S. resident).

When most people think of identity fraud, checkbooks and credit cards come to mind. But a Social Security number or a birth certificate are equally, if not more, valuable to someone not able to work legally in the United States.

“They really have no alternative,” said Fernanda Pereira, an immigration attorney with Meath & Pereira Attorneys & Counselors in Stockton.

Ruben’s past situation is not unique. There are an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States. San Joaquin County is home to about 42,000 migrant workers, legal and illegal.

Undocumented workers find identities in different ways. Some by drawing Social Security numbers out of the air.

Some by borrowing identities from family members or friends. Some by buying forged documents on the streets or from coyotes - people smugglers.

The identities they adopt sometimes are those of actual people; others are complete fabrications……

Allan Gotlieb, Canada’s Ambassador to the United States
from 1981-1989, speaks to the Economic Club of Toronto
in Toronto, Tuesday November 28, 2006.

TORONTO - Canada should push the United States for a new kind of relationship where disputes are resolved by the rule of law - not the vagaries of domestic politics, one of Canada’s most successful ambassadors to Washington urged Tuesday.

Allan Gotlieb, the envoy from 1981 to 1989, advocated a European-style legal union, coupled with the creation of a North American security perimeter around the two countries.

The alternative, he told an Economic Club of Toronto luncheon, is continuing bilateral irritants that could lead to the Americans treating Canada more like Mexico.

”We are potentially seeing what could be the Mexicanization of the Canadian border, he warned.

”I think we have to go back and rethink the relationship,” said Gotlieb. ”We have to go beyond lobbying, we have to go beyond good relations. We have to create structures like they have in Europe where you have the protection of laws … and (we’re) less dependent on the whim of senators or congressmen or the president.”

Gotlieb also said Canadians should not fool themselves into thinking that a Democratic party-dominated Congress, or a possible Democrat president down the road, will necessarily be good for this country. Democrats may be closer ideologically to Canadians, but are more likely to be protectionist and erect trade barriers that end up hurting the economy here, he noted.

He said Prime Minister Stephen Harper has fashioned a sensible strategy for dealing with the U.S., both building a good rapport with the president and ensuring diplomats continue to lobby Congress.

Gotlieb has just published a book on his own years in Washington, based on diaries he kept at the time and that he has since edited and condensed.

He acknowledged that he arrived in the American capital with the same prejudice as most of his predecessors: that the embassy need deal only with the administration, and leave the legislators alone.

But he said he was soon disabused of that notion, realizing that a surprising amount of the power in Washington resides within the Senate and House of Representatives.

The diplomat began directly lobbying senators and representatives, a practice built upon by succeeding ambassadors, while wining and dining power brokers at social events that became the talk of the town.

Washington Times

A Mississippi Democrat in line to become chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee has warned the nation’s largest uniform supplier it faces criminal charges if it follows a White House proposal to recheck workers with mismatched Social Security numbers and fire those who cannot resolve the discrepancy in 60 days.

Rep. Bennie Thompson said in a letter to Cintas Corp. it could be charged with “illegal activities in violation of state and federal law” if any of its 32,000 employees are terminated because they gave incorrect Social Security numbers to be hired.

In June, President Bush proposed new guidelines concerning “no-match” letters from the Social Security Administration, saying he wanted to make it easier for employers to verify workers’ eligibility and continue to hold them accountable for those they hire.

The Department of Homeland Security followed up on that announcement yesterday, formally releasing new regulations to help businesses comply with hiring requirements intended to reduce the hiring of illegal aliens — including setting guidelines for businesses when handling “no-match” letters from the Social Security Administration.

The proposed regulation is subject to a 60-day public comment period.

But Mr. Thompson called the “no-match” letters a threat to workers who fail to reverify their information and called Cintas’ actions a “rash enactment of a proposed DHS regulation.” He said that by implementing “this incomplete regulation,” Cintas could be in violation of federal immigration law.

The seven-term congressman also said before the proposal becomes law, it must go through a rule-making process, “which could radically change the regulation or kill it all together.”

As Homeland Security Committee chairman, he would set the panel’s agenda. Earlier this month, he also said Democrats planned to “revisit” legislation mandating 698 miles of fencing on the U.S.-Mexico border and might seek to scrap the plan.

This jackass needs a major attitude adjustment. Send him an email and call his office.

Read these articles and make sure you watch the short video included in the first one. This is a feel good story for anyone needing a shot in the arm of patriotism and real to life enforcement of our laws to stem the tide of illegal immigration at the local level. Sheriff Jim Pendergraph is a incredible American who speaks the truth in the face of a tidal wave of political correctness. Wouldn’t it be great if more of our leaders were this brave and forthright? Thanks Jim! In the newscast video all the reporters actually call illegal aliens….”illegal aliens” or just plain “illegals”. Wow! How bout that?? Anybody ready to move to Charlotte?

Mecklenburg County Jail Program Helping Deport Illegal Immigrants Video

Mecklenburg touts deportation program
Citing 930 catches, sheriff hopes to expand
The Charlotte Observer
October 28, 2006

More than 900 illegal immigrants have been identified and placed in deportation proceedings since April, when the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office launched a federal program to check the status of those arrested.

Now sheriff’s officials want to hire more deputies to keep up with the caseload.

Of the 930 illegal immigrants identified in Mecklenburg County, 450 would have been released were it not for the program. At least 128 already have been deported. They were arrested most commonly on driving while impaired or traffic violations.

“That success, frankly, has triggered interest throughout the country,” Julie Myers, assistant secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, said Monday. She was joined by Sheriff Jim Pendergraph and Rep. Sue Myrick, R-N.C., of Charlotte, who provided updates on the program.

North Carolina Sheriff Uses 287(G) Powers, Acts Against Illegal Immigration!
September 20, 2006

Sheriff Jim Pendergraph of Mecklenburg County (Charlotte, NC) has been a lawman for 36 years and has seen police work from every angle. Heâ??s respected nationally, and holds the position of Treasurer in the Major County Sheriffâ??s Association. He sees first hand the results of the deliberate Federal under-enforcement policy with respect to immigration laws. [Officials say locals swamped by illegals Most at hearing say feds ignore immigration By Tim Whitmire, AP, August 26, 2006]

And he has not stood by without taking action.

Pendergraphâ??s department is the first sheriffâ??s office east of Arizona to implement the 287(g) provision of the 1996 immigration act, and the only US county to deploy it in a jail setting. He learned of 287(g) in a conversation with the Sheriff of Orange County, CA back in October 2005, and became interested because of the known problems back in his home county.

Congresswoman Myrickâ??s office immediately became involved, and lent forceful backing. 287(g) powers are delegated though a Memorandum of Agreement, and most of the language was worked out between the Sheriffâ??s Office attorneys and local ICE agent Jeff Jordan. Following the MOU, 12 sworn officers attended a 4-week training session (the same as for entering ICE agents), and were duly graduated.

The program clicked into action May 1, 2006……

A VDARE.COM Reader Talks To NC Sheriff Jim (â??Political correctness is going to cause us to lose this countryâ?) Pendergraph
October 25, 2006

â??With anti-immigration feelings running high and elections just three weeks away, this once-insular state has become a key actor in the national debate over how to absorbâ??or expelâ??illegal migrants. North Carolina has had a greater [percentage] increase in foreign-born population over the last 15 years than any [other] state in the nation: a 412 percent increase, almost five times the national average.

â??The same concerns and fears being voiced from Hazleton, Pa., to Riverside, N.J., to Phoenix, Ariz., are writ large in North Carolina. Illegal immigration has figured prominently in political campaigns here and in neighboring counties of South Carolina.

â??â??This is the hottest issue Iâ??ve ever seen,â?? said Mecklenburg County Sheriff Jim Pendergraph, a Democrat who is running for reelection. â??And itâ??s going to be the hottest issue, maybe next to Iraq, in the presidential election in two years.â??

â??Pendergraph said he had received hundreds of laudatory e-mails and letters from constituents and dozens of inquiries from other jurisdictions since he teamed with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to train 12 deputies to screen prisoners for their immigration status. Since the program started in April, his office has processed 653 immigrants for deportation.

â??Now the sheriff is lobbying for a federal immigration court and detention center in Charlotte to handle more cases.

â??â??Congress has let us down. And a lot of the politicians are doing the three-monkey thingâ??hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evilâ??because theyâ??re so afraid of political correctness,â?? the sheriff said. â??Political correctness is going to cause us to lose this country.â??â?

Half from countries of ’special interest’ let go between 2001, 2005, says report

WASHINGTON â?? Half of the 91,516 illegal aliens from terror-sponsoring countries and those of “special interest” apprehended at the border between 2001 and 2005 were released into the U.S. population, according to a report by the inspector general’s office of the Department of Homeland Security.

The report, “Detention and Removal of Illegal Aliens,” released earlier this year with little fanfare or attention, suggests about 85 percent of those aliens â?? potentially the most dangerous â?? would abscond and likely never be seen by authorities again.

Budget shortfalls were the explanations for why some 45,008 potential terrorists were released by authorities over a period of nearly five years after Sept. 11, 2001. The budget crunches prompted immigration officials to place strict limits on detention bed space, recruitment, training, travel and expansion of enforcement programs, the report explained.

In addition to the release of these high-risk aliens, 27,947 known criminals were also released between 2001 and 2004 â?? including 20, 967 “from countries where the notorious Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang members are know to be active.”

Given that only one in four aliens attempting to enter the U.S. during this period was caught, that would suggest some 350,000 from high-risk nations entered the country through this five-year period. An additional 400,000 criminal aliens would also have made it into the country between 2001 and 2004, according to the report.

Americans Urge Immigration Agents to Raid Smithfield Plant in North Carolina
The Conservative Voice
November 28, 2006

A national organization with many supporters in North Carolina is urging their NC and national supporters to contact Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and request a raid on the Smithfield Packing Companyâ??s processing plant in Tar Heel, NC for knowingly hiring illegal aliens.

“We applaud Smithfield Foods Incorporated’s initial efforts to screen out illegal alien employees,” said William Gheen of Americans for Legal Immigration Political Action Committee.

“But they have rehired these illegal aliens who are using fraudulent documents and stolen identities. Smithfield Foods Inc. is now knowingly violating federal law. We want ICE to come and do the job taxpayers pay them to do. We want ICE and Smithfield Packing to remove all illegal aliens from their workforce immediately,” he said in a statement released by ALIPAC.

ALIPAC’s citizen activists will begin calling, e-mailing, and faxing federal authorities and Smithfield Foods Inc. today to demand immediate action to remove all illegal alien employees from their workforce, according to Gheen’s statement.

For contact information and examples of what to say and what to write go here to ALIPAC’s web site on this subject.

According to ALIPAC, a few weeks ago, Smithfield Foods discovered that an estimated 600 of their employees had social security numbers on file that did not match their names recorded at the Social Security Administration.

The company subsequently fired 75 of these employees for providing false documents and information. Labor unions seized on the issue and hundreds of Latino workers walked off the job in protest.

In response to the union-backed walkout, Smithfield Foods caved in to the pressure and rehired the illegal aliens that had provided false information.

This plant is considered to be the world’s largest hog slaughtering plant.

Recent studies have shown that illegal aliens have depressed wages in North Carolina and are a burden to NC taxpayers, said Gheen. Studies also indicate that North Carolina is a top national destination for illegal aliens. Every few weeks there are new reports of more North Carolinians killed by drunk driving illegal aliens.

“We are not going to pay the extra costs of lost taxes, depressed wages, lost jobs, and spilled American blood for Smithfield Packing’s cheap illegal labor force,â? Gheen said.

“We will push for the ICE raid and for the company to obey the law or we may have to launch national boycott of their products,” he warned.

Aiding and abetting illegal aliens to remain unlawfully in the US is a federal felony under Section 8 USC 1324(a)(1)(A)(iv)(b)(iii) Employers that intentionally hire illegal labor face fines and possible jail time.

Pork Products and BBQ are very popular in N.C. Polls show a high level and rising degree of concern about illegal immigration in the state. Smithfield Foods Inc now faces an organized protest response from citizens that buy their products. ALIPAC and FIRE Coalition are the directors of the National Miller Brewing Boycott which includes over 100 organizations at Miller Brewing’s sales have declined during the boycott……

First plank of the communist manifesto: abolition of all private property. Eminent domain is sweeping this country like a deadly forest fire and it will continue to escalate as plans for the complete and total destruction of our sovereign nation move ahead. Bush’s proposed North American Union (NAU) and the so-called Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP) are the final nails in the coffin of America’s sovereignty. The globalists in Congress and the White House over the past several decades have been slowly, step by step deconstructing our sovereign republic in anticipation of eliminating these united States of America and merging them into one region of a world governmental body.

WASHINGTON: About 30,000 applications from immigrants seeking citizenship were processed by a division of the Homeland Security Department even though tens of thousands of background files used to determine eligibility were missing, congressional investigators found.

Details of the investigation by the General Accountability Office were released Tuesday by Republican Sens. Chuck Grassley and Susan Collins.

Grassley and Collins said the citizenship and immigration offices rely on the A-file to help determine eligibility for immigration benefits. The files are used by domestic security and law enforcement agencies during criminal investigations and to decide whether a person should remain in the United States.

Spokesmen at Homeland Security Department and Citizenship and Immigration Services could not be reached immediately Tuesday.

Grassley and Collins said they requested the investigation after the Homeland Security agency granted U.S. citizenship to a suspected terrorist, without checking an A-file, in 2002.

“It only takes one missing file of somebody with links to a terrorist organization to become an American citizen,” Grassley said in a news release.

A man who says he was molested by a Roman Catholic priest almost 10 years ago sued cardinals in Los Angeles and Mexico Thursday, claiming they knew of the allegations and protected the priest.

The Superior Court lawsuit says Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mahoney and Mexican Cardinal Norberto Rivera placed the Rev. Nicolas Aguilar in positions where he molested more than 60 boys in the two countries.

Rivals in Mexico’s Congress have exchanged punches, just days before President-elect Felipe Calderon is due to be sworn in to office.

The scuffle occurred after left-wing deputies tried to take the podium to protest against Friday’s inauguration.

Deputies could be seen throwing punches and grabbing each other’s clothes, and at least one man ended up on the floor.

Members of the left-wing party, the PRD, say Mr Calderon won July’s presidential election by fraud.

Steve Previs, a vice president at Jefferies International Ltd., explained the Amero “is the proposed new currency for the North American Community which is being developed right now between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.”

The aim, he said, according to a transcript provided by CNBC to WND, is to make a “borderless community, much like the European Union, with the U.S. dollar, the Canadian dollar and the Mexican peso being replaced by the amero.”

Previs told the television audience many Canadians are “upset” about the amero. Most Americans outside of Texas largely are unaware of the amero or the plans to integrate North America, Previs observed, claiming many are just “putting their head in the sand” over the plans.
