Invaders Shitting Pants Over National Guard

SAN LUIS RIO COLORADO, Mexico (AP) - The arrival of U.S. National Guard troops in Arizona has scared off illegal Mexican migrants along the border as a whole, significantly reducing crossings, according to U.S. and Mexican officials.

U.S. authorities said Monday that detentions along the U.S.-Mexico border have decreased by 21 percent, to 26,994, in the first 10 days of June, compared with 34,077 for the same period a year ago.

Along the Arizona border, once the busiest crossing spot, detentions have dropped 23 percent, according to the U.S. Border Patrol.

The desert region’s blistering June temperatures typically drive down the number of migrants, but not so drastically, said Mario Martinez, a spokesman with the U.S. Border Patrol in Washington.

The 55 soldiers who arrived June 3 are the first of some 6,000 troops to be gradually dispatched all along the border as part of U.S. President George W. Bush’s plan to stem illegal immigration to the United States.

The soldiers aren’t allowed to detain migrants and have been limited to projects like extending border fences and repairing roads, but the military’s presence is keeping would-be crossers away from the area, migrant rights activists said.

“Some migrants have told me they heard about the troops on television and, because the U.S. Army doesn’t have a very good reputation, they prefer not to cross,” said Francisco Loureiro, who runs a migrant shelter in Nogales, Mexico, across the border from Arizona.

Loureiro said the shelter was housing about 12 migrants a night, down from about 100.

Jorge Vazquez, coordinator for Mexico’s Grupo Beta migrant aid agency in San Luis Rio Colorado, across from San Luis, Arizona, said that before the troops arrived, his agents encountered at least two dozens migrants daily, most waiting for nightfall to begin their trek through the sandy desert.

“There have been days … when we’ve found only three migrants,” Vazquez said.

Some migrants may be moving to the California-Mexico border, the only stretch of border that saw a spike in detentions, which were up 7 percent to 5,965 in the first 10 days of June.

This is a clear-cut example of why we should militarize the borders. If just having a small number of National Guard troops does something, imagine what it would be like if we had the Army down there. I don’t like the idea of the illegals moving to the California/Mexico border. We’ve got enough of those people here as it is! We don’t need more!

If a small number of National Guard troops on the border has an effect, imagine what putting the military down there would do! A clear example of why we need to militarize our borders! After that, we can focus on interior enforcement.

I wonder why I have only seen Lou Dobbs report on the airlines??? I guess the government doesn’t want the american people to find out until it is too late………………………..They better not give our airlines over to anybody else……….I thought I heard Lou say the british want our airlines I feel another revolution coming on………………………..

  7. Eddie B. Says:

    Kate -

    Because it’s a secret…..

And you are absolutely right, only on Lou Dobbs. The funny thing is that back in the good old days the mafia ran all the ports, garment districts, and airport ground transportation. They only asked for 10%…. They weren’t greedy. Can you imagine the Arabs running the ports, air terminals, toll lane highways, and airports?

I think I would rather have Tony Soprano to be real honest. More trust worthy.

That cracks me up. Our army doesn’t have a good reputation? That piece of crap country really has some nerve critiquing OUR military!

Too bad Bush doesn’t really want to secure the border. This shows that is can be done quite easily. I don’t know which one of you said that you feel a revolution coming on, but I strongly agree. People in my community are furious. We just need to get word out to people everywhere. They are already mad as he_ _ and absolutely disgusted with this government (even folks like me who were deceived and voted for bush). I believe that the Minutemen will become our army so let’s give them massive support.

Also, I read that massive uprisings/major upheavels occur in 70-80 years cycles. Civil War, Great Depression/WWI, and now???????????

Remember when Bush put 40,000 cops in New York City to guard the Republican NAtional Convention in 2001? 40,000 cops…… You bet he doesn’t want the border protected.

  11. Sarah Says:

Yes, I do remember. He’ll protect his own hide….won’t he
I wonder how many guards he had around him on this secret visit to Iraq today. It must be an uneasy feeling to have the whole world hate ya.

I’m with you. IMPEACH BUSH NOW

Because if I was I would be blasting the mother fuckers!

Here, here Johnny! Gun control is the ability to put two bullets in the same hole.

In response to would-be illigal aliens comments that The U.S. Army do not have a very good reputation. Mexico and those illigal aliens have an even worse reputations, ones of total disregard of a US immigrations laws.
A decrease of illigal crossings by 21% may well translate into 21 % of an increase of migrants build-up at the border. US troops build-ups at a faster rate is even more critical now than ever to stem a potentially even more massive surge of illigal crossings to elliviate the bottleneck affect south of the border.
