New Minuteman/”Immigrant” Reality Show

Once the show is on the air, I’ll be posting video clips of Frank’s reaction to it. So we’ll get a behind the scenes looks at the program.

LOS ANGELES — A member of the Minutemen group and a family of illegal immigrants are paired in a reality series aimed at giving people a chance to see life from a different perspective.

The episode of the FX series “30 Days,” from Academy Award-nominated “Super Size Me” documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, is scheduled to air Aug. 2.

In it, a man identified only as Frank and said to be a member of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps, the anti-illegal immigration group, lives with a Mexican family in the U.S. illegally.

Frank shares a one-bedroom apartment in Los Angeles with seven immigrants and accompanies the family to a March pro-immigrant rally that drew hundreds of thousands to downtown Los Angeles.

The network remained within the law, said John Landgraf, president of FX Networks.

“We suggested the family seek outside legal counsel,” Landgraf told the Daily Journal of Los Angeles. Participants were not paid and the family’s real surname was not used, he said.

Spurlock’s series debuts July 26 with an episode in which the filmmaker tests life inside a county jail in Virginia.

I hope that this isn’t a “see we just want a better life” portrayal. I say do a video of a Mexican turned US citizen and let him enter the life of the human smuggling, drug trafficking, and gangs. Now that’s the reality show I want to see.

  2. Craig Says:

I would love to see the single episode where in the beginning of the show the minuteman phones I.C.E. with the illegals telephone and the show ends with deportation. Happy ending!

  3. johnny Says:

    Hell Yea Craig!
what does The FX network think illegal immigration is some kind of joke?????

  4. Educated American Says:

My initial reaction to this is negative. I think it will make the illegal immigrant family look innocent, and the Minuteman guy will be made to look like a fool. Thus, the general public will be conditioned to see illegal immigrants as noble and American patriots as evil racists. I’ll betchya.

  5. marleen Says:

if this becomes a platform of sympathy for illegals, i doubt they will show the La Raza ‘’Movement'’.

  6. Contessa Says:

Is it Frank Jorge who is the MM goiing to live with the illegals? I know he won’t mince any words and will expose them for what they are.

  7. Sherri Says:

This sort of thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Is the point of this show going to try to show illegals as just poor, desparate people who want a better life? How about doing a reality show where Americans who have been pushed out of work in favor of cheap, foreign labor are shown struggling and trying to survive thanks to the illegal invasion? How about a reality show where we see the real problems that illegals bring onto our society and the long-term impact of their being allowed to stay?

  8. Ed Says:

I agree with all of you.I’ll bet the show will portray the illigals as the inesents.indtead of having the minute man live with illegals that steal every thing taht is’nt bolted down or the illigal that suck up tax payers from welfare & free medical care or show the guy white & black americans job that they took by working for much less money. or have a family member that sells illegal drugs & bogus papers social secuity cards drivers licenses birth certificates. no that would be too much reality for the american viewer.

  9. nikki Says:

This is one of the best shows on tv! I’m looking forward to seeing this.

  10. marleen Says:

Sherri , this leaves a bad taste in my mouth too.regardless to the actual content of this new show it will be of entertainment value, this is so mocking and exploitive of a crises that we are facing. i do not own a tv.. .programming is exactly what a tv does .it programs, a teaching tool to go along with the program.

  11. Jana Says:

I smell a rat. It doesn’t seem like something a Minuteman would do. That is unless he planned on turning the illegals in afterwards. haha Seriously, I don’t think a family of illegals would agree to do this either.

I have no idea where Morgan Spulock’s feelings are on the illegal immigration issue, but I hope he will be fair in the portrayal. I hope it doesn’t turn out to be some kind of bleeding heart “oh those poor, noble immigrants with hearts of gold” sobfest with a side of “let’s laugh at the dumbass white racist goober”.
