A delegation of nine state legislators from Sonora was in Tucson on Tuesday to say Arizona’s new employer sanctions law will have a devastating effect on the Mexican state.

At a news conference, the legislators said Sonora - Arizona’s southern neighbor, made up of mostly small towns - cannot handle the demand for housing, jobs and schools it will face as illegal Mexican workers here return to their hometowns without jobs or money.

The law, which took effect Jan.1, punishes employers who knowingly hire individuals who don’t have valid legal documents to work in the United States. Penalties include suspension or loss of a business license.

Its intent is to eliminate or curtail the top draw for immigrants to this country - jobs.

The Mexican delegation, members of Sonora’s 58th Legislature, belong to the National Action Party (PAN), the party of Mexico’s president, Felipe Calderón.

They spoke at the offices of Project PPEP, a nonprofit that provides job retraining for farmworkers and other programs.

The lawmakers were to travel to Phoenix for a Wednesday breakfast meeting with Hispanic legislators.

They want to tell them how the law will affect Mexican families on both sides of the border.

“How can they pass a law like this?” asked Mexican Rep. Leticia Amparano Gamez, who represents Nogales.

“There is not one person living in Sonora who does not have a friend or relative working in Arizona,” she said in Spanish.

“Mexico is not prepared for this, for the tremendous problems” it will face as more and more Mexicans working in Arizona and sending money to their families return to hometowns in Sonora without jobs, she said.

“We are one family, socially and economically,” she said of the people of Sonora and Arizona.

“We are one family, socially and economically…? In other words- Socialism. Communism. Mexico’s economic and social welfare is the direct responsibility of US funding and infrastructure. Still, it is ironic that Mexico continues to evade such a collective view, with the needy communities on it’s southern boundary. The result is a strange schizophrenic regional policy. With northern policy, the gringos are expected to embrace Mexican socialism. When it comes to southen policy, the unwanted peasants from central and south America should get used to Mexico exercising it’s strict nationalism. Ole!

    Good one Watchdog.

And as for the last 2 paragraphs: Hey, what about the loss of our jobs and social/economic issues?

Mexico should have been taking care of them in the first place.

There is one more thing that the Mexican people should remember: BILL CLINTON passed NAFTA. Hillary is his wife and she knows damn well what the impact of NAFTA was. Anybody would be a fool to vote for her….Then again, she might cry for more votes. That seemed to work last time.

Whats mine is mine; and, whats yours is mine. That is typical Sonoran mentality. They pollute-and AZ or the Gov`t pays for it. They cross the border, with no insurance-and the police say “that`s life” when they kill or injure someone-and we pay for it. They crooss the border and bring thier children to our schools-and we pay for it.

Gee…I feel sooo sorry for Mexico…(sniff sniff)
Now they’ll have to deal with the burden they haven’t minded dumping on us for all of those years, which they should have been taking care of to begin with! Mexico is like a spoiled, whiny child that cries when things don’t go their way. I say give em’ a good spank and send all of their citizens home. Enough of this b.s.!

They are afraid there won’t be anyone to fill their piggy banks. These people have so much nerve. Seeing as though the bleeding heart liberals want so badly for the Mexicans to do well, well I have a suggestion. How about you take your raggedy ass’s to Mexico, and work on it there, and from within, not through the USA. Maybe Calderon would like to hand his Government over for the Clintons to run. I like that idea.

They come into the U.S. knowing full well that it is illegal to do so. Now for some dumb reason we are suppose to feel bad that they have to retrun and their home country actually has to deal with them? Some people are literally insane.
