The Napa woman whose legs were crushed when she was hit by a drunk driver Sunday night has a long, tough road to recovery.

Doctors at Queen of the Valley Medical Center operated on Lilian Clark the night of the crash, amputating both of her legs just above the knee, according to her husband, John Clark.
Clark, 38, is the mother of two boys, 4 and 6. She was pinned between the rear bumper of her car and a 1990 Plymouth driven by Francisco Pacheco, 24, of Napa.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. Sunday on South Terrace Drive, north of Shetler Avenue.

After the crash, Pacheco put his car in reverse and sped away from the scene. Neighbors followed him to his house about a block away, where they held him until police arrived and arrested Pacheco on felony DUI, hit and run and driving without a valid license. Pacheco has a prior misdemeanor DUI conviction from January 2007. He is on probation.

He is being held in the county jail on $100,000 bail.

Pacheco does not have auto insurance.

?I have no idea at this time what will be involved in Lili?s recovery. I know there will be months, maybe years of rehab, and she will have to be fitted for prosthesis,? her husband said.

A fund has been set up to help the family with medical expenses and to bring Lilian Clark?s family from Chile, where they live, so they can help out with the children and their family member?s recovery.

Donations may be made at Washington Mutual Bank, 699 Trancas St., Napa, 94558. The account is under the name Lilian Clark and Children.

Clark said that on the night of the accident, his wife had double-parked her car and was putting their sons, Jake and Sam, in their child safety seats.

?She went around to the back of the car to get to the driver?s door. I was right there. I said ?see you later,? and within a split second I heard tires screeching and saw this car come roaring down the street about 50 miles an hour and just slam into the back of Lili?s car, pinning her between the two bumpers,? Clark said.

With the impact of Pacheco?s car, John Clark said, ?The trunk popped open, and she flew inside. Then, the guy threw his car in reverse and left. Lili just fell to the ground in a heap. The neighbors ran out of the house. I was yelling ?Call 911.? They said they already had and asked me which way the guy went. They followed him in their car and found his car parked in front of his house down the street.

?I was holding Lili. She was conscious. All she kept saying was ?Check the kids.? Her legs were crushed, and she was just worried about the kids,? he said. ?The kids were crying and saying ?What happened to Mommy?? The neighbors helped me and we kept the kids from seeing what happened. Just horrific, horrific is the only way I can describe it.?

Doctors amputated her legs that night. ?There was no way they could save her legs.? She had over 60 breaks in her bones, Clark said.

Clark said his wife had undergone her third operation on Tuesday. ?She knows what has happened. She?s such a strong woman, I just can?t believe it. Like I said, her main concern is the kids.

?They took the tubes out Tuesday and she got to see the kids. They need to know that mom is going to make it. Lili is in good spirits. She feels very fortunate to be alive. That woman is just remarkable,? Clark said.

Lilian Clark is from Chile.

?I met her when I was visiting friends in Chile in 1996. We struck up a friendship which blossomed. I tried everything to get her a visa to live in America. Nothing worked. I was finally successful in getting a fiancé visa. She came to Napa in 1999, and we got married,? Clark said.

Lilian Clark had worked as temporary office employee. More recently, she has been a stay-at-home mom.

How can our government continue to allow this? Anyone who was raised in a shanty-town has not had access to a car, nor taken Driver’s Ed. Then they come here, can’t speak the language, buy a piece-of-sh*t auto with no more than a few dollars down and a matricula card, no insurance, no license, no education, and no understanding of the consequences of driving under the influence. But hey, let’s just keep dragging our feet about putting a stop to the raging flood.

It seems a lot more dangerous to walk across the street then it used to be. It’s like the illegal sets a bad example. The American is thinking, “the illegal gets away with this or that, so can I”. The sign says walk and more than half the cars will pay no attention and keep coming. I’m walking. How am I suppose to cross the street if the cars take my turn?

One time an old lady was crossing a very busy intersection walking very slow and using a cane. She took a step then this hispanic driver took another inch. This went on for what seemed like forever. It looked like he was going to run her over. You would have had to see this to believe it . If this guy came just one hair closer to her, he would have slammed into her. He was getting that close. She snapped, “Why don’t you just run me over. Run me over dam it!” I would be afraid to drive that close to an able-bodied person.

It does seem like a lot of these people have never took driving lessons.

This is a disgrace. Hey, too bad it hasn’t happened to any politicians, economists or CEOs or CFR members who promote this illegal immigration yet. That’s who deserves a run-in with illegal aliens.

  7. Arthur_in_Alabama says:

These people should not have been able to buy a car in the first place! Anyone who knowingly, and willingly, sells an Illegal a car should also be held liable if that person hurts or kills someone with it! That would dry up the Illegal market in a hurry!

    Absolutely disgusting.

This story brings back memories. I was a pedestrian and was hit by a 14 year old anchor baby(no license) who had never driven before a few years back. If I had been hit a few seconds earlier I would have been smashed between his van and my car. Luckily, all I got was a badly sprained ankle out of it and some minor pavement burns. Thankfully he did have insurance and my medical bills were paid plus I got a settlement out of them. It could have been much worse.

The newcomers(most likely illegals) always think they have the right of way. They never give you an inch. I think they see the white gringo lady and think they own the place. They always ram ahead of you when driving and you’d better move or be hit. It’s the same way when I’m running errands in town. Citizens open the doors for women-illegals run ahead of you and close the door in your face. Citizens say thank you or excuse me-illegals just turn their backs to you.

I have a scanner and it’s always the same thing. Either they are having accidents and/or are driving drunk. Usually they have no driver’s license, have fictitious plates, have no registration and/or no insurance.

The article explains that the victim is originally from Chile. No mention is made whatsoever, of the legal status of the perp. Apparently, the background, history and status of the victim is an important issue… but not in regards the perp. That there is some mighty fine editorial work. So worry not, just another day living in the Pinata that is El Norte.

Mayday #9 I am not sure but I think that in mexico the driver has the right at least I know it true in the Phillippines I came very close to getting hit the guy was going slow but a Friend told me they have the gight of way.if that had been my wife I would wait and when he got out of jail I shoot him.this is the third female that has lost their legs by an illegal.

Send the article to Janet Murguia, Juan Hernandez, McCain, Clinton, Obama and anyone else who is for Comprehensive Immigration Reform. These people first need to be reformed and sent to rehab in Mexico so they can go back to their own country and maim their people. A young mother minding her own business caring for her children - if this isn’t enough to send them all back I just don’t know what it takes. Are you listening all you pro-illegals????

  14. The Watchdog says:

I have learned that this lowlife was deported after his first DUI. He crossed the border illegally again to take this woman’s legs.

  15. BEADALONG says:

This should happen to Murguia, Clinton, McCain, our Prez and anybody else cramming this illegal alien invasion down our throats. I’ll include the church leaders as well on this issue.

……And nothing will change until it does.
