Blacks vs. Latinos at Work

Wall Street Journal

LOS ANGELES — Donnie Gaut, an African-American with 12 years of warehouse experience, applied for a job in 2002 at Farmer John Meats, a large Los Angeles pork processor. When he was turned down for the position, a job stocking goods that paid $7 an hour, Mr. Gaut decided the problem wasn’t his résumé — it was his race. He filed a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the federal agency that enforces antidiscrimination laws in the workplace.

Last October, the EEOC secured a $110,000 settlement from the company to be shared by Mr. Gaut and six other black applicants who were rejected for production jobs at Farmer John based on their race, according to the agency.

The EEOC says it found that the pork packer, owned by Clougherty Packing Co., had been almost exclusively hiring Hispanics for warehouse, packing and production jobs. Clougherty was acquired by Hormel Foods Corp. in 2004.

This issue of discrimination in favor of hiring illegals over citizens or legal residents is just awakening. Everyone that’s ever been denied a job and suspects its because the company or employer only hires Hispanic illegal immigrants, should file suit with the EEOC ASAP. Please send this article to the NAACP. I suspect that there are tens of thousands of these cases.

Immigrants are welcome. Illegal aliens are not.

I am a Hispanic American and often feel that the opposite is true! It is a know fact that African Americans get paid more than Hispanics for the same job . I have often been praised for my strong work ethic and in many cases it has been attributed to my Latin culture. If I were an employer, I would want to hire the candidate that will be most productive, it is in my best interest as an employer. I don’t think it’s fair to go after Hispanics who do work hard and are getting jobs over other races. Hispanics are the second largest group in this country and contribute to the American economy and no one can complain about that!

Black American’s are paid more than Latino American’s? I’m not aware of this “known fact.” Could you give me a source?
