“This has never happened before,” said Gilberto, a middle-aged gardener who joined over 600 hundreds residents of the inland City of Pomona to protest what he said were never-ending racist traffic checkpoints, or “retenes.”

The native of Jalisco, Mexico, said he marched through city streets because he was angry. And he had every right to be.

During the last 18 months, the Pomona Police Department had impounded his 1989 Chevy Malibu three times because Gilberto, like many who live in the low-income city about 30 miles east of Los Angeles, does not have a driver?s license. An undocumented worker, he is constantly fearful of being harassed by the authorities.

“Every time they pull me over without a driver?s license, it costs $1,500 to get my car back,” said Gilberto.

Many city residents at the protest expressed similar sentiments, saying the so-called sobriety checkpoints are death traps for hard-working immigrants. After paying hundreds of dollars in fines and impound fees, there is often little left for gas, food or rent.

Sounds to me that the law is working. If A person is found with no drivers license he or she should not get the automobile back and still pay a hefty fine or jail time. There is a reason for drivers license and that is to ensure the person follows the laws of the road. Next thing we know they will be complaining about enforcing the drunk driver laws at all.
Vote third party this election no candidate of the 2 major parties support the USA citizens or USA itself. Obama has guaranteed amnesty first year in office ( I thought congress had to pass it first). We all know where McCain stands. A vote for any democrat or a vote for McCain is a vote for amnesty and world government.

When I was a teenager I got pulled over, no drivers license and my car impounded. I blamed no one but my self and my parents scolded me on top of it, they didn’t make any excuses or blame anyone else but me and neither did I. I guess that’s the difference though between irresponsible blame shifting ignorant mexicans and rule and law Americans. Do we really want scum like this guy here or his barrio neighbors associated with or even among us?

What a concept: Breaking the law results in punishment! Here’s a tip, if you don’t want to obey the laws of the country you’ve snuck into, then sneak back the other way across the border and stay there.

no license, no insurance, so if they hurt or kill someone i guess it would be unfair to expect them to be held responsible and their whinning ‘I BERRY SORREEE’ should be enough. then they should be given another vehicle so that THEIR familees won’t be inconvienced. i guess we should be understanding as that is their culture, anything less would be racist.

  5. jo says:

where the hell was ICE. there would have been no need to round them up, because obviously they were all lawbreakers, even if we disregard their initial
    breaking and entering.

  6. jo says:

it seems that they are already making concessions to them. i thought that when you get fines they go up each time you get caught.

  7. George says:

Why was’nt he deported and good if they cant afford to buy gas that is more for us
cant pay their rent good they can be evicted and go back to Meeheko. Here’s your hat there ’s the door what is your hurry.

  8. George says:

I had a lot of typos in the above post.Anyways I I do believe that driving while drunk is against the law.and if you dont have proof of libility your regestion will be revoked.but then again those laws only aply to citizen.

  9. BEADALONG says:

Good points everyone. AND yea, where the heck was ICE? If they’re here illegally, they should have been deported!

He’s angry? He feels he has every right to march through the streets?

He’s here illegally! What is the matter with these people? The people with this mindset just aren’t logical.

And if our government had any spines at all and were actually enforcing our laws, then these people would have been deported on the spot and have NO support from anybody.

Don’t break the law and you won’t have to worry about it. Oh, I’m sorry, you want to not only be in this country illegally, work in the United States illegally, you also want the right to also be able to drive without a license…… I see….
