Guest Worker Amnesty Update

Halls of Shame,

Senate Judiciary Committee Passes Massive Guest Worker Amnesty Program Would Destroy American Dream for American Workers and Families

As you have undoubtedly heard, the Senate Judiciary Committee last evening approved an amnesty guest worker program modeled after the worst of all possible alternatives, the McCain-Kennedy legislation. Not to be outdone, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) successfully advanced an amendment to provide amnesty for some 1.5 million illegal alien agricultural workers.

Incredible as it may sound, the Judiciary Committee took this action even as the Government Accountability Office (GAO) was issuing a devastating report on border vulnerability to terrorism. The report revealed that its investigators had successfully smuggled enough nuclear material across both the Mexican and Canadian borders to assemble two “dirty bombs.” Even more incredibly, the GAO investigators smuggled their cargo not in some remote unguarded sector of either border, but through regular “secure” border crossings.

What follows is a short synopsis of the highlights of the Judiciary Committee bill approved yesterday:

Citizenship for Sale and for Free

General Amnesty (Graham R-SC, Kennedy D-MA Amendment)

* All 12 million currently resident illegal aliens would be permitted to apply for a work visa after paying back taxes and a $1000 penalty.
* The visas would last for three years and be renewable for three more years.
* After the forth year, these 12 million newly-minted legal aliens-their family members who will ultimately be permitted to join them pushing the numbers through the roof-would be permitted to apply for a green card setting them on a path for citizenship.
o Approved 12-5.
o Yesterday’s Villains include Senators Arlen Specter (R-PA), Sam Brownback (R-KS), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and Mike DeWine (R-OH) who joined all Democrats by voting for the most sweeping amnesty in American history.
o Cowardly Lion Award goes to Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) who was conveniently out of the room and did not vote.

Agricultural Worker Amnesty (Feinstein D-CA Amendment)

* All 1.5 million illegal alien agricultural worker would receive a new “blue card” that would allow them to remain in the United States as long as they work in agriculture for a small portion of two years.
* Following this period all of these 1.5 million newly-minted legal aliens-their family members who will ultimately be permitted to join them will at minimum double the numbers-would be permitted to apply for a green card, placing them on a path toward citizenship.
o Approved 11-5 on a roll call vote (votes by Senators not immediately available, but mirror those of the general amnesty vote above).

Guests Who Never Have to Leave (Kennedy D-MA Amendment)

* Provides 400,000 new guest worker visas annually.
* New guest workers given renewable 3 year terms of work authorization.
* Following 6 years, the new “guests” may apply for green cards, placing them on a path toward citizenship if they can show that they are learning English and pass background checks.
o Approved 11-6 by roll call vote (votes by Senators not immediately available but mirror those of the general amnesty vote above).

Want to Go to College? U.S. Citizens Go To The Back of The Line!

In-State Tuition for Illegal Aliens Anyone? (Durbin D-IL Amendment)

* Repeals current law barring in-state tuition for illegal aliens unless the same benefit is made available to out of state residents.
* This will effectively require middle and lower income Americans to directly compete with illegal aliens for limited freshman class seats at state colleges and universities.
o Approved by voice vote.

Invitation to Overstay Visas

Decriminalize Visa Overstayers Anyone? (Durbin D-IL Amendment)

* Makes overstay of a visa-40 percent of all illegal aliens are visa overstayers-a civil violation and removes all criminal penalties.
o Approved 11-6 by roll call vote (votes by Senators not immediately available but mirror those of the general amnesty vote above).

I’m retired and acquired a comfortable pension, and healthcare for myself. This includes Social Security which I believe will be depleted by such things as the illegal immigration issues, and even legal immigration. This young man is on the path to no where in American no matter how hard he works. The old days of paying your dues first as a American is over. Now the tax dollars are handed out to those who come here and certainly don’t deserve anything. The big thing now is just get across the border, no fear whatsoever of deportation, and anythings better than living in Mexico.
The Mexican government and the individual Mexican immigrant wants his country back which includes the mid-western states. Looks like our politicians are handing it over on a silver platter. I for one I was a young man would certainly stand up for America, but as a senior citizen It’s over for me I had a good life, and can only say to what’s left of white America. GOD bless, and good luck you’ll need both.

Remember that infamous 1968 picture of Senator Kennedy’s assassination ’s in Los Angeles seen across the world. In that pisture, it shows a Mexican Busboy supporting Kenndey’s head in his hand as he was lying on the floor. As rediculous as it may sounds, but if that picture has any influence on the McCain-Kennedy Immigrations bills, in terms of painting a rosy picture of mexicans treatments toward America, then it would one of the most distortions of reality one image could do. Here are the reasons.

1/3 of criminals in California prisons are of illigal status from mexico and central America, which cost taxpayers half billion a annually . Some additional 3000 are fugitives still here in the US or Mexico. In total , some 10 to 12 billions dollars are spent for their social services just in Calfornia alone.

RE: ‘Cowardly Lion Award goes to Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) who was conveniently out of the room and did not vote.’

THANK YOU VERY MUCH SENATOR HATCH. I watched the committee hearings. EVERY TIME ANY amendment came up he said ‘pass’. I don’t believe he placed a single vote on a single of many, many amendments. I didn’t see the final vote and I ask, ‘Are you SURE he was out of the room or did he just again say ‘PASS’?’

Instead of calling him cowardly, it is more likely he has listened to his constituents and decided they are asking for a 50-50 split and the best way to handle that was to stand down on this vote. I HAVE written to Senator Hatch many times on this topic. He leans both ways. He is totally against illegal immigration, and argues we need to follow the laws already in place, does not want to penalize illegal status children of immigrants or deny offering State and federal benefits for illegal immigrants. Knowing that, how else was he supposed to vote?

My guess is if you forced him to do the water torture test and tied him up until he gave you an answer, he would have voted for anything that forced the existing laws to but recognized. Right now, Utah has a good relationship with Mexico. (For now.) I’m sure he didn’t want to cast any vote that would upset the apple cart.

We’ll just keep sitting on the fence for now, I guess.

    Roobah

Utah is really sitting on the fence on this issue, for now. I mean, we are surrounded by Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and have a massive influx of California residents moving OUT of CA and coming to UT. We haven’t yet experienced the severe nature illegal immigration has caused other States. We are right on the fence toward jumping in with our neighbors calling for change.

Also I noticed, except for Feinstein, pretty much ALL of the committee members in the South and West were fighting for tougher legislation. Members, such as Kennedy, who lives way up North did everything in his power to make sure the ‘Amnesty’ options would remain intact.

I see now that you guys are just a half assed, biased scared bunch of punks. Post what the real people say or stop acting like you care about the true opinions. If you are a left wing liberal democratic site, say so, it would explain your lack of cohonas. I hope all the people that you dont let voice an opinion find another venue and dont waste too much time with you.
